Advanced diagnostic lab panels that go beyond standard blood work to identify the root causes of chronic illness, pain, and dysfunction — so treatment targets what's actually driving your symptoms.

Functional medicine lab testing blood analysis

What is Functional Medicine Testing?

Functional medicine testing is a diagnostic approach that uses advanced laboratory panels to identify the underlying imbalances driving chronic health problems — rather than simply confirming the presence of a named disease. It measures markers across multiple body systems simultaneously: digestion, hormones, metabolism, inflammation, detoxification, nutrients, immune function, and more.

Standard blood work ordered by a conventional doctor typically screens for acute illness and major disease using broad reference ranges. Functional testing goes deeper — evaluating 60–80 or more markers, interpreted against narrower optimal ranges that reflect true physiological balance rather than just the absence of diagnosed disease. This reveals early dysfunction, subclinical imbalances, and patterns across systems that standard labs routinely miss.

At Revolve Integrative Health, functional medicine testing is the diagnostic foundation of our root-cause approach. For patients dealing with chronic pain, fatigue, brain fog, or complex systemic illness, it provides the roadmap that makes personalized, targeted treatment possible — rather than guessing at what's wrong.

Why Standard Labs Are Not Enough

Conventional vs. Functional Testing

Standard

Screens for major disease using broad population-based reference ranges. If your result falls within range, you're told you're "normal" — even if you feel anything but.

Functional

Uses narrower optimal ranges to identify early dysfunction before it becomes disease. Evaluates patterns across multiple systems to find root causes — not just confirm diagnoses.

Standard

A TSH within 0.5–4.5 mIU/L is considered normal. Thyroid dysfunction is missed in millions of patients whose results fall just inside the conventional range.

Functional

A full thyroid panel including Free T3, Free T4, Reverse T3, and thyroid antibodies — interpreted using an optimal range of 1.0–2.5 mIU/L — reveals dysfunction that conventional testing misses entirely.

What We Test

Comprehensive Blood Chemistry

A foundational panel evaluating 60–80+ markers across multiple systems, interpreted using functional optimal ranges.

Includes: CBC, CMP, lipids, blood sugar, insulin, HbA1c, liver & kidney function, electrolytes

Full Thyroid Panel

A complete picture of thyroid function that goes well beyond the standard TSH test ordered by most physicians.

Includes: TSH, Free T3, Free T4, Reverse T3, thyroid antibodies (TPO, TgAb)

Inflammation Markers

Identifies chronic systemic inflammation — one of the primary drivers of chronic pain, disc degeneration, and accelerated aging.

Includes: hs-CRP, homocysteine, ferritin, ESR, fibrinogen

Hormone Profiling

Evaluates the chemical messengers that regulate energy, metabolism, mood, sleep, pain sensitivity, and immune function.

Includes: cortisol, DHEA, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, insulin

Gut Health Analysis

Identifies microbiome imbalances, pathogens, parasites, and inflammatory markers that contribute to systemic inflammation, pain, and chronic illness.

Includes: GI-MAP stool DNA test, intestinal permeability, food sensitivity panels

Nutrient Status

Deficiencies in key vitamins and minerals directly impair cellular energy, immune function, nerve health, and tissue repair.

Includes: Vitamin D, B12, magnesium (RBC), zinc, iron/ferritin, omega-3 index

Toxin & Heavy Metal Screening

Screens for environmental toxins, mold mycotoxins, and heavy metals that accumulate in tissue and contribute to chronic fatigue, brain fog, and immune dysfunction.

Includes: MycoTOX mold panel, heavy metals urine panel, environmental toxins

Adrenal & Stress Response

Evaluates how the adrenal glands are functioning across the day — revealing patterns of burnout, dysregulation, or chronic overactivation of the stress response.

Includes: DUTCH test, 4-point cortisol, DHEA-S, adrenaline markers

Who Benefits Most

Chronic, Unexplained Symptoms

Patients who have been told their labs are "normal" but still feel unwell. Fatigue, brain fog, pain, digestive issues, and mood changes that standard testing has failed to explain.

Complex Chronic Illness

Lyme disease, mold-related illness, Epstein-Barr virus, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and autoimmune conditions where multiple overlapping root causes need to be identified and addressed.

Chronic Pain That Won't Resolve

Patients with persistent back pain, joint pain, or nerve pain where structural treatment alone hasn't produced lasting results — because the underlying inflammatory or metabolic drivers haven't been identified.

Proactive Health Optimization

Anyone who wants a comprehensive picture of how their body is actually functioning — identifying trends toward illness before they become disease, and correcting imbalances while they're still reversible.

Brain Fog

Lyme Disease

Mold-Related Illness

Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV)

Thyroid Dysfunction
